Apparently you can stay and work and get paid on a pending visa application, but you cannot get a driver's license. Well I kinda knew since I dig up the whole Internet reading forums in the topic. But I also found that someone showed up with a letter from the employer and was issued with a temporary 60 days license. Well, we were not. So we legally drive our cars until next Thursday. I need to check up on my bike. Well there's a slight chance that the visa decision comes until then, so fingers crossed.
But so that everyone knows, in California, driver's license is tied to your immigration information, and there's no loop hole. Pending application with employer's letter is not enough to get even a temporary license. Be prepared for biking and riding the almost non existing public transportation.
