Welcome to Wisteria Lane

This weekend was busy. We were moving. It took about 3-4 days to pack our stuff. I don't know how can you get so many things within just one year. We arrived last year with all together 6 suitcases, and now we used so many boxes and I had to turn 4 times with the 10' U-Haul truck I was renting... Even though we got rid of that ugly dresser and sofa set we had in the apartment.

The new place is lovely, it's a unit in a duplex. The street is a dead-end street and this house is right at the very end of the street. It comes with a garage, driveway, backyard, front-yard! The neighbors are just lovely. They introduced themselves as soon as they could get a hold of us, we were even invited to a grill-party that day! We showed up, to introduce ourselves, but didn't stay for long. Too many boxes to unpack... However the previous owner of the house who was living there for 24 years were at the party, and she came by before and told us how the house used to look like before it was renovated.

It was such a different experience I had in the apartment complex where we used to live!

Friday, we got the keys. In the evening we went to Ikea, bought a 4 seat sofa, dining set, a rag, a couple of smaller things for just only $899. Great deal indeed!

Saturday we moved over, I terminated Comcast on the old address, and went back to Ikea to buy myself a desk since I realized that I don't want to see the old one in the house. I managed to fit the 2m (78 6/8") long desk in my car (I cannot open the trunk through the back seats, stupid Dodge). In the evening I assembled the dining set, and the shelf part of my desk while my wife unpacked our kitchen. We were exhausted!

I woke up to the birds, instead of a building supplies factory... Much more pleasant!

Sunday I got up early, and finished the rest of the desk. We went to the old apartment to clean it up. People from Craigslist came to pick up the stuff we didn't want anymore. My favorite was the Indian lady, who came with an SUV to pick up a 3 piece sofa set and the drawer. Luckily she was not alone, and the white guy with him could get a trailer. So we got rid of all the stuff and finished cleaning up. In the afternoon our new sofa arrived, and we finished the assembling. We went to Home Depot, too, to buy a couple of things. They had a battery driller/screwdriver for $29.99. I bought it. If only I did that before assembling all those things! Anyway I drilled the Internet stuff on the wall (router, switch, cable-modem) and we finished unpacking. The living room is ready and it's looking great! Sofa: jeans color, rag: bright red, TV and coffee table, desk, PC. All set!

This morning Sears delivered our washer and dryer, and I packed my clothes in the wardrobe. And with that we're 90% ready. The wardrobe space is smaller than in the previous apartment, so for the extra T-shirts and things we'll need something. Maybe a 1.5m wide Ikea PAX wardrobe next month... Credit card is empty ;)

I think we did excellent. But if we have to move again, it'll sure be a nightmare. We have a huge garage now. With shelves. Lots of shelves... Where you just dump stuff and forget about them... Dangerous :)

And now our typical middle-class American life shall begin!
